Hi Guys,
Im hiking the alpine pass route from Sargans to Montreux in mid June starting 16/17 June till 7th July. Ive read varied reports on the weather but was just wondering whether its possible to be able to do it at this sort of time of the year providing one carries proper gear.

Thanks!

Hi kt6252! Snow can be found on alpine hiking routes even in July and August. The hiking season for such routes is from June to October, so many parts of the route won't cause problems. You can give it a try and consider these tips:
  • make sure you have proper gear, consisting of high quality trekking shoes, multi-layered clothing, sun glasses, a hat, and a water proof jacket at all times;
  • check weather conditions daily, preferably each day before leaving or the evening before. Weather conditions may change very quickly in the mountains and the weather report of a few days ago may therefore be worth nothing. Even if good weather is predicted, you have to be prepared for sudden changes. Tourist offices in the villages you pass will provide information, just as hut owners along the way;
  • if you want to avoid parts of the route because of bad weather or snow, just remember that many of them can instead be completed by public transportation (sometimes with a bit of a detour of course).
You may have found good online resources already, but just to make sure: information on the route you plan can be found at

Hi kt6252, I am planning to hiking part of the same route at about the same time too. Maybe we can team up?
