    Hi all,

    Im planning an 8 day honeymoon trip in Switzerland from 3rd October to 10th October 2017. Need some recommendations for a memorable one.

    Here’s what i’ve came up with: Do suggest or comments on whether it could work out.

    3/10/17: Arrival at Zurich airport 0700hrs. Travel to Engelberg and go up Mount Titlus. One night accomodation.

    4/10/17: Early departure to Interlaken via scenic train

    (Which train has the best scenic view to interlaken? And its duration.)

    Lunch at Interlaken and travel to Grindelweld for Paragliding.

    (Whats the last timing for paragliding? By the time it should be around 1500hrs? can this work out?)

    Accommodation at Grindelweld for 2 nights.

    5/10/17: Go up Juncfraujoch. (Possible to do skiing? any recommendations? Another location maybe?)

    6/1017: Go up First and do some activities until 1500hrs then travel to Lauterbrunnen. 2 night accommodation in Lauterbrunnen.

    7/10/17: Trummelbach falls (If time permits), Murren, Schilthorn and back to Lauterbrunnen. (Timing possible?)

    8/10/17: Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt. Travel up Matterhorn. 1 night accommodation in Zermatt.

    9/10/17: Travel back to Lucern. Free and easy and accommodation for 1 nights. (possible to take scenic train on this day rather than 4th? due to time constraint?) (Information about this alternative scenic travel method). (Things to do in Lucern?)

    10/10/17: Golden round trip up Mount Pilatus and lake lucern. Travel to Zurich for Departure.

    It would be of great help if anyone can recommend, improve or comment on my itinerary. Would definitely consider. Especially the bolded ones. Thanks!

    Hi Zulfadli1987, welcome to MySwissAlps!

    Great that you get to spend your honeymoon in Switzerland! Please find some tips and links below:

    • October 4: assuming you’re coming from Engelberg you’ll travel to Interlaken via Lucerne. This is a scenic route that’s part of the Golden Pass line. Please consult the timetable to find details on this trip and on all other transfers in your schedule. If you read the tips on our timetable page, I think you’ll understand how to use it. Mind to use the right spelling when entering destinations, e.g. Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch;
    • October 4: I’m not sure about paragliding in the afternoon. Such organised and pre-booked trips take a couple of hours. Please find some options here. Alternatively you can look for other things in the Jungfrau region;
    • October 5: please study our Jungfraujoch page;
    • October 7: yes, this is certainly possible. Depending on weather forecasts you may want to visit Schilthorn first. You’d best try to plan that visit at the best and clearest time of the day;
    • October 8/9: a scenic way of traveling to and from Zermatt is to use the local train (enter “Goppenstein” as a via-station in the timetable) rather than the default quicker tunnel connection.

    Apart from this, you may want to re-arrange your schedule a bit. You could start or end with two days in/near Lucerne to visit both Titlis and Pilatus, rather than doing one at the beginning and one at the end of your stay. Also, you may consider visiting Zermatt as a day trip from Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen, instead of spending the night there. It will be a long day of traveling though. Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are rather close to one another, so it doesn’t necessarily make sense to stay in hotels in both towns. It may be more relaxed to just spend 4 nights in the same hotel.

    Please find hotels in the towns you mentioned here.

    I advise to look into the 8 day Swiss Travel Pass. It will suit your travel plans very well.

    Hi,

    Firstly, congratulations on your wedding and choosing Switzerland for your honeymoon. You’re going to have a great time!

    Your itinerary looks good, but I’d make a couple of changes.

    Firstly, instead of going to Grindelwald to go paragliding, stay in Interlaken and do it from there. When you arrive, go straight to the Landing Field opposite the Casino and book your flight for the afternoon. Most of the operators have booking kiosks there, but if they are busy, they may not be able to take you at such short notice.

    There is no proper skiing at the Jungfraujoch. They used to run a short rope tow on the glacier, but it was more of a novelty than anything else. I didn’t see it on my last visit there and I don’t know if they still do it and in any case, it may be closed by October If you want to ski at that time of year, Zermatt is the better option. The Klein Matterhorn cable car will take you up to the “Glacier Paradise” where you can ski all year round.

    You mentioned ‘travel up the Matterhorn’. There is no cable car to the top of the Matterhorn. You can take a cable car to Schwarzsee, which is at the foot of the Matterhorn and well worth a visit.

    One last tip, take good cold weather clothes with you. The mountains can be chilly in October.

    Have a great trip!

    Alan
