Hi Joe and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Great to hear you are enjoying our website!

I think your itinerary looks good. Day 6 though, I’m not sure what the Big morning train is…typo?

I don’t think the RheinFall is a must – see and would prefer an extra night somewhere else and just one night in Zurich but that is a personal preference. You could, if you have a full day in Zurich do both a city tour (on your own) and RheinFall in one day.

Have you looked into Swiss rail passes? The Swiss Travel Pass for the adults, combined with the free Swiss Family Passto cover your children would be a great option for you.

Many thanks for your advice Lucas ..

as you advised i will do only one night in Zurich and spend that extra day either in luzern .

day 6 plan now moved to day 7 and plan is to go to St.Moritz via Brig( BIG was a Typo mistake..sorry).

    Day 7 – 3rd August, Thursday

Interlaken to Brig Morning train – 2 hrs

Morning train from Brig to St.Moritz 7 hrs ( Glacir Express)

    1 NIGHT STAY AT ST.MORITZ – 3rd

    Day 8 – 4th August, Friday

Morning Train to Zurich – 4.30 hrs , reach by noon

short city tour or Day trip to Rhine waterfalls.

    1 NIGHT STAY AT ZURICH – 4TH.

    Day 9 – 5th August, Saturday-Departure Zurich 12 noon.

we will buy 8 days Swiss travel pass and family pass .could you please advice on the trains we need to have reservations and tickets bookings in advance?

it would be a very helpful to know the convenient economy range 3 star hotels in Luzern 4 nights, Interlaken 2 nights, st.Moritz 1 night and Zurich 1 night.

    Hi Joe,

You can only make reservations on panoramic trains (and you must) so this is just on the Glacier Express on your itinerary. You can make reservations here.

We have a list of recommended hotels for different budgets on all of our town pages: Zurich, St. Moritz, Luzern and Interlaken.

    Hej Joe,

You certainly are packing in a lot of travel in your short time in Switzerland.

One place you might consider visiting in Lucerne, especially if the weather is not cooperating, is the Swiss Transportation Museum (5, Lidostrasse, a quick bus ride from the centre of town). http://www.verkehrshaus.ch/en Kids love this place, which has all kinds of hand-on activities.

By the way, I completely agree with Lucas about the Rheinfall. But maybe your kids will really like it.

    Hi Joe,

The Swiss Travel Pass gives you 50% off the Swiss Museum or Transport entrance – all other attractions there (planetarium etc) are the standard price I believe.
The Family ticket would be for parents, grandparents and all children in your family under 16.

All forms of transport to Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi are free with the Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Family Card (for children under 16). The links above will show you the prices for the passes and how to buy online as well (it is much more convenient to buy online before you leave home as you can print it out and have it with you as soon as you land in Zurich.

You can read about everything that is included or partially included on the Swiss travel Pass here.

    Hello Joe

A word of caution – be sure to check the boat schedules on Aug 1st as all the boats will be mustering at the Thun end of the lake ready for the special Aug 1st fireworks cruise in the evening. The earlier boats will probably follow normal time table – it’s just the ones later in the afternoon which may not return to Interlaken – though of course you could return on the train via Spiez and south shore or the pretty bus route (no 21) along north shore.

    Hi Joe,

Looks like a well-thought out itinerary!

    To answer your questions:

    1. You don’t need to pre-book tickets for Jungfraujoch – it can get busy in the summer, so if you do want to pre-book you can do so online here or at any rail station in Switzerland. I would not pre-book until the day or so before your planned trip – make sure the weather looks good before buying tickets!
    2. The Swiss Travel Pass does not cover the trip between Grindelwald or Wengen to Jungfraujoch (it does give you a 25% discount on the ticket though). Your train travel up to Grindelwald or Wengen from Interlaken (and return) is covered by the pass.
