Can someone offer some advice. we will be in county for about 10 days and will use a rental car to get around. we plan to visit lucern and the moutains close by, st Moritz, Zermatt and lake como. while we are in switz, we want to use the cable cars to get to the mountain areas. would it make sense to get a travel pass (half fare) to save on cable car costs? since we do not plan to use any trains in switz, i’m not sure it makes sense to buy the half fare card? any suggestions?

we will be traveling next month.

    Hi Bill,

It would most likely make sense to buy the Swiss Half Fare Card. Depending on the cost and frequency of the mountain trips you will make you often make the purchase cost back.

Have a read through our page on how to choose the best Swiss rail pass (and use the excel sheet to do calculations).

Also here is our page on the Swiss Half Fare Card. Using the timetable for Swiss railways here, will help you schedule you trips and get you prices on the trains (the first price you see is the “starting price”. Click on the fare/buy button, fill out some details and check the price with and with out the Swiss half fare travelcard. This isn’t the same as the Swiss Half Fare Card you might buy (its residents only) but the discount is the same.
