HELP! My family (2 adults and 2 children -under 10) arrive in Basel airport this summer (July).

After spending one night in the French section near the airport , we head to Wengen where we spend 6 nights. Our plan will be to use this place as a base and travel around the area.

On our 7th day, we travel to Zurich to fly home.

PLEASE. Anybody advise on the best Swiss Rail pass and approx. costs for this itinerary? (our sightseeing is likely to be only places less than 60 minutes away from Wengen).

Are there any advantages to paying the passers weeks in advance or should I just try and get them at the airport in Basel?

    THANK YOU!

    Hi BuxtonFam, welcome to MySwissAlps!

There are several options for your journey, and the only way to find out what suits your needs best, is making detailed calculations as explained here. Here are the options I think you should compare:

    • the Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi. It allows a free trip from Basel Airport to Wengen and from Wengen to Zurich Airport. The trips you plan to make in between will be discounted by 50%. The Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi isn’t for sale in Switzerland and can best be purchased through one of the resellers listed here.
    • a regular Swiss Transfer Ticket to cover Basel-Wengen and Wengen-Zurich, plus a Jungfrau Travel Pass. It will cover trips in the immediate Wengen area, so this may be a good alternative if you plan to make extensive use of local public transportation and don’t plan any side trips in other areas.
