Can the IC from Brig to Interlaken be booked out?

We’ll be on the Glacier Express from Chur on 15 May, getting off at Brig. From there we need to get to Interlaken.

The Glacier Express arrives in Brig at 15.40 and the IC leaves at 15.49. That’s only 9 minutes between them. What if the G.C is late? Should we pre-book seats on the IC or just buy tickets at Brig?

If the GC is late, we’ll have to wait until the next IC at 16.49, and would we then have to buy more tickets?

    Hello Judy52,

Nine minutes is sufficient to make the change, but it’s not much if you also need to buy tickets. Trains may wait a few minutes if connecting trains are late, but in case of extreme delays you need to take the next train to Interlaken. Pre-booking seats is not necessary for Swiss trains, unless the timetable says differently (e.g. in case of the Glacier Express). The train to Interlaken would be free if you have a Swiss Pass or Swiss Flexi Pass, so in that case you don’t need any tickets at all. If you do need tickets, you can purchase them in advance, either online or at any Swiss rail station.

    Thanks Arno

I was thinking of getting the 1/2 fare card when we arrive in Tirano as I think it might work out cheaper for us. But that means we’ll need to buy tickets at Brig. If we buy the tickets for Brig to Interlaken and miss the 15.49, can we use the same tickets for the 16.49 train?

You’re welcome. Tickets are valid for a day, not for a specific train, so you can board any train that day. Tickets can be purchased at any rail station, e.g. Tirano, Chur, or wherever you have time.
