Schynige Platte is a wonderful place to hike, watch Alpine flowers and enjoy the view of the Bernese Alps. The 121 year old cogwheel railroad up the mountain was electrified 100 years ago. To celebrate that, families enjoy discounted traveling this Summer: up to two children under 16 years old travel for free if accompanied by a parent or grandparent. This offer is valid until October 26, 2014. More information: http://www.jungfrau.ch.

If you own a rail pass, children travel along for free nearly everywhere in Switzerland.

There are festivities for this anniversary today (15 June 2014). So, if you happen to be in the area, you can enjoy the locomotive show in the depot at the rail station in Wilderswil.
