We will be spending time with Swiss friends in these two locations. Can you suggest interesting day trips from both these locations? Perhaps there are villages along Lake Leman that are not too touristy?

    Hi Joanne,

Day trips in the Bernese Oberland (Thun) are listed here. A boat trip should be on your list! As from Fribourg: the Chocolate Train is an option, but that’s 100% touristic. Hiking is an option, as well as boat trips on Lake Geneva and Lake Neuchâtel. You could do a round trip by train via Montreux – Zweisimmen – Spiez. Or visit the Lavaux Vinorama.

I hope this gets your started!

Thank you so much. Actually, that Montreux-Zweisimmen-Spiez route may be a panoramic way to get to Thun for our second stop. I never thought about that. Is it more expensive to travel that way than via Bern from Fribourg to Thun?

It’s a good idea to use that route for your transfer to Thun. It’s more expensive, but definitely worth the extra time and money. You were planning to get a Swiss Card, right? That allows you to purchase tickets at half the fare.
