Okay, so we have our Swiss Travel Pass, 1st class for 4 days. Have purchased our Italy train tickets, except the final one. We are leaving Varenna, Italy, through Milan to Domodossola (border) to Grindelwald.

From all of Arno’s great advice, I have learned that due to the Expo in Milan, that to buy tickets ahead of time and to buy the ticket to Domodossola, and then just before arriving in Domodossola, show our Swiss Travel Passes to rail personnel for passage across the border.

But here’s the question: The earliest train from Varenna, through Milan, to Domodossola arrives at 12:43PM; the quickest route from Domodossola to Grindelwald, goes through Spiez and departs Domodossola at 12:48PM….a five minute differential….is that really enough?/

Otherwise, there is a train leaving Domodossola at 13:48, 65 minutes later and it passes through Brig and thus even a little bit longer ride to Grindelwald.

    Thoughts??

    Just a few more weeks!!

    Barry

    Hi Barry,

It’s a through train which stops for 5 minutes in Domodossola. No need to get off the train. You just need to have your pass validated by train staff anywhere between Milan and Domodossola. So it’s done on board, very easy.

    Enjoy the ride!
