    Hi,

My family and I are going to Switzerland for 4 days then to Florence. I was wondering what will be the cheapest option? We will be staying in Lucerne and are planning to go to the Jungfrauch area on the 2nd and 3rd day. Do both the Eurail and global pass cover transportation in Switzerland, plus the tourist attractions? Or will it be cheaper to buy train tickets to Florence and the Swiss pass separately?

    Many thanks,

    Rachel

Hi Rachel and welcome to MySwissAlps!

It will depend on how much traveling you do in Italy as well as Switzerland to decide on the best rail pass. If you are planning a fair bit of train travel in Italy, then the Eurail Select Pass could be the best option.

However, the rail passes don’t offer the same benefits. In Switzerland, the Swiss Travel Pass or perhaps the Regional Pass- Bernese Oberland would be better options, offering better coverage and discounts when in Switzerland. So if most of your train travel is here and you aren’t traveling by train after Florence, then one of those passes would be the best option – then buy a point to point ticket from the border (of Switzerland or the regional pass) to Florence.

You can click on each link above to see prices and coverage in Switzerland offered by each rail pass.

To be 100% sure on the best rail pass you need to create an itinerary of your planned trips and read through our page: How to choose the best rail pass – there is an excel sheet there to help you do the math.

    Cheers,
    Lucas
