We will be spending 19 days in Switzerland in Sept. We will be arriving in Zurich and going directly to Lucerne for 3 days and then to Murren for 6 days. Before going to Bern for about 5 days, we were planning to go to either Fribourg or Murten. We plan to take day trips to Lake Geneva. We will not have a car. What are comments about either Fribourg or Murten.

Please note that unlike many travelers, we like to stay in one place for a little longer rather than trying to do too much and go too many places. We have been traveling like this for over 30 years and it has worked really well for us.

    Thanks

    Hi PAYevics,

Welcome to MySwissAlps! It’s a good idea to stay a bit longer in each town. There is so much to do and see everywhere, you won’t run out of options quickly. You could even consider to stay in Bern or Murten/Fribourg and not both. Both towns are only 20-35 minutes by train from Bern, so it’s more or less the same region. I’m not familiar with either Murten or Fribourg so I can’t be of much help here, but if you search for these towns in the search box in the top of the website you will find some forum discussions that might be useful.

    Hi Payevics-

I stay often in the area near Murten, but have enjoyed my stays in Fribourg.

    What are your particular interests?

Hiking, photography, wines, food, museums. lake boat rides, countryside, cities……
