Hi Arno and Slowpoke, annika and Lucas

Hope you can help wishing to go to Mt Rigi using a combination of transport, BUT avoiding the cablecar.

My plan is

Boat to Vitznau

Vitzanau Cog railway to summit

Rigi Kulm to Arth-Goldau not sure on this bit of route

Arth-Goldau to Luzern (this is a normal train??)

Yes, you can do that route. Its called the ‘Majestic Round Trip’ on our Mt. Rigi page.

This definately avoids all cablecars??

Another question if i was to do a walk/hike where would be a good place to walk to and from preferable on the downward route.

Hi Twiggy,

yes you can walk down from Rigi Kulm to the village of Rigi Kaltbad and continue by train from there, or walk from Rigi Staffelhöhe to Freibergen. The cable car you are trying to avoid runs from Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis.

Hi Lucas-

I like to walk from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad via Chänzeli, by turning away from the trail near the tracks and heading out across the meadow on the trail at Rigi Staffelhöhe.
