    Hi,

We will be travelling to Switzerland from 28 – 31 Jan, and will be staying in Grindelwald.

We will be making our way to Venice on 31 Jan..

    1. What is the quickest way to get to Venice by train?

    2. Should we go from Grindelwald to Domodossala, and then from Domodossala to Venice? Some people suggest a through train from Spiez to Venice via Milan.

    3. We have the 4-day Swiss Pass, so the journey from Grindelwald to Domodossala (provided we choose this route) will be free of charge, do we need to make seat reservations?

    4. From which websites should we purchase the train tickets?

    Thank you!

    Cheers,

    Grace

    Hi Grace,

1./2. You can find all train schedules in the timetable. The normal route is Grindelwald – Interlaken – Spiez – Milan – Venice.

    3. With a 4-day Swiss Pass (called Swiss Travel Pass as of January 1), the trip is indeed free until Domodossola (which is between Spiez and Milan). You need a ticket from Domodossola to Venice.

    4. The best (cheapest) way to get the tickets to Venice is to order them along with the Swiss Travel Pass. That prevents additional shipping/handling or whatever extra costs may be involved by the reseller you choose. But whether you already ordered the pass or not, http://www.raileurope.com.sg is where you can order it from Singapore (that’s where you live, right?). The ticket includes seat reservations.

    Did this help you out?

    Hi Arno,

    Yes I am from Singapore.

Thank you for the information, it has been very helpful!

With regards to point 3, do I need to make seat reservations of the Switzerland part of the train journey (with a Swiss Travel Pass)?

    Cheers,

    Grae

    Hi Grae,

Trains in Switzerland do not require seat reservation, except for the Glacier Express and a few others. All information about that can be found here.
