Zurich to Milan via Gotthard Base Tunnel

    We want to travel by train from Zurich to Milan via the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. Do all trains now go via the tunnel or is there a choice between the old and new tunnels?

    Hi conniecat,

    The train timetable will always list the fastest route to your destination (through the new tunnel) in this case.

    You have to go out of your way to plan the longer trip that doesn’t go through the tunnel (great for sightseeing but not great if you are in a rush) this is via Göschenen.
