I know it is not the ideal time to visit but it is when we can make it. We are staying in Grindelwald for 3 nights: planning 1 day a trip to Zermatt & 1 day hiking in Grindelwald-Lauterbrunnen, the other day is flexible. The long range forecast is looking quite cold and rainy/snowy during that time. What is the temperature difference between Grindelwald and Spiez or Thun – is it worth it to change our hotel to Thun so warmer? As this is our only time in Switzerland, we are planning on going to Zermatt & hiking Grindelwald regardless of the weather, unless it is snowing quite a lot. But, if it is raining/snowing alot, do you have suggestions on what other things we should do?

    Hi DMfiala

That is typical weather for early May, but it can change in an instant. Check as the dates get closer.

may not be perfectly up to date ( look at he bottom of the page) but it may help.

I would expect Thun and Interlaken to be up to 5 °C (9 F) warmer than Grindelwald just because of the altitude. On average it’s also sunnier around the lakes, so that helps too. But you won’t be in the mountains there, so it’s also about what you’d like to see when you step out of your hotel.
