I have been traveling in Switzerland but went to Varenna on Lake Como. I now want to return to Meiringen to start a hike. I am guessing I will have to pay full price until I get to Brig via Milan. Once in Brig I will buy a ticket using my half fare card for the rest of the trip to Meiringen. Is this correct? Also can I buy a ticket in Varenna to Meiringen and would they use my half fare card to calculate the part of the trip that is applicable to half fare? I do not know if the Italian and Swiss rail companies work together in this way. Thanks, Rob

    Hi Rob,

There are various routes. The Swiss Half Fare Card map shows from where you are qualified for a discount. I don’t know which types of tickets they sell in Varenna. You may have to buy a ticket to the Swiss border (e.g. Chiasso, Lugano, Domodossola), and a separate one for the Swiss leg. They will for sure sell discounted tickets in Lugano and Brig as these are Swiss stations.
