Hi – have done a lot of research into Swiss pass etc but finding it very confusing so hope someone can help me find the cheapest way of travelling! We are four adults flying to Basel for a long weekend on a Friday in early Jan then our schedule is as follows:
Day 1: fly to Basel then travel to Basel centre
Day 2: train from Basel to wengen
Day 3: hope to do the jungfraujoch depending on weather
Day 4: train from wengen to Basel then fly at night from Basel to uk
As far as I can see the cost of the train to wengen costs around 144chf so Did originally think the Swiss pass 4 day is the right train pass to get as it gives. 25% discount on the jungfraujoch but now think a three day inter rail to use from the sat would be cheaper! or would the half fare card work out better?

We def want to do the jungfraujoch and know we have to pay for this just want to make sure the travel overall is as cost effective as we can make it and we get the right pass for any discounts. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Emma 🙂

    Hi Emma,

I would say that a Swiss Card is your best choice. It included the trip from the airport to Wengen and back for free, and you get a 50% discount on the Jungfraujoch. These links may be convenient for you to look into:

Thanks Arno – looked at the Swiss Card and slightly confused. We’re staying in Basel on the Friday night, so is it ok not to use it then and then just use it from Basel normal station to Wengen on the Saturday? Wasn’t sure if it has to be used on the same day of entry into the country and whether it has to be from the airport. Thanks, Emma

    Hi Emma,

That doesn’t matter: Basel is a border station, so you can use it from there as well. Day 2 would be the first day of your Swiss Card.

    Have fun!
