Im a solo traveller. I’ll be in Luzern end of April/beginning May. I’m looking for a hotel. My budget is less than 120CHF.
I’m traveling by train and foot. So location hopefully is near town within walking distance to attractions.
Another thing I need is free wifi service in the room.
Thanks a lot

Hi kenlee6.
Here’s a few suggestions:
- Lion Lodge; very affordable and at walking distance from the train station and town center;
- Aparthotel Adler; in the historical town center and with everything at walking distance.
Please see the links for rates and a map. Do these match your requirements?

The second hotel is slightly over budget. Any hotels cheaper a bit??
thanks
ArnoModerator15471 posts8 March 2016 at 14:31:31 #849164Hi kenlee6,
The second hotel is CHF 112 per night, including wifi (I checked May 1 as I don’t know your exact dates). There are more options if you don’t mind not staying in the town center but still at walking distance, like B&B Bettstatt-Neustadt and Hotel Alpha.

I checked hotel alpha. Seems nice
ArnoModerator15471 posts8 March 2016 at 16:58:33 #849166Hi kenlee6,
Did you click the links I gave you? That’s where you can find rates through various booking sites and more hotel details.

Yea I did click the link you gave me. Thanks a lot. If I want hotel in Grindelwald should I start a new thread or can I post here??
My budget is about the same. Period 2-6 may.
ArnoModerator15471 posts9 March 2016 at 9:08:02 #849168Hi kenlee6,
For Grindelwald you can have a look at myswissalps.com/ grindelwald/ hotels and at these options:
- The Derby, at 60 seconds from the rail station!
- Hotel Spinne, a bit further down the road but still very close.
- Jungfrau Lodge, at 7 minutes from the station. They also have rooms well below your budget with a shared bathroom.
What do you think?
Removed userParticipant72625 posts9 March 2016 at 11:51:54 #849169Hi Arno
Thanks for the recommendations. The Derby looks nice but I saw reviews said it’s too near the train station. So it’s noisy.
Does the Spinne have wifi in each room?? It’s not stated. Only state the hotel has. I’m ot sure they meant general area.
Thanks
ArnoModerator15471 posts9 March 2016 at 12:53:37 #849170Hello kenlee6,
The Derby hotel is right next to the rail station. It could indeed be a bit noisy, although less in the south facing rooms with mountain view rather than station view.
Regarding the Spinne: the way I understand it is that they have Wifi all over the hotel, but it could be optional (so it’s either included in the booking or you pay for it separately). I noticed a single room with free wifi included, which is CHF 10/night over your budget, but that might be worth it if your prefer that location.

Can we choose whether we want mountain or railway view for Derby?? Or will it be given by the receptionist?? Does derby have wifi in each room??
ArnoModerator15471 posts9 March 2016 at 13:57:43 #849172Hi kenlee6,
The mountain facing rooms are described as south-side or Eiger view. The others would be facing the rail station (and behind that “less impressive” mountains as well). You’d best check the link in my earlier post for room types. Wifi is available in all rooms.

Does the rate of hotel in those sites like booking.com and agoda etc changes with currency??
Meaning if my country’s currency is up today compared to CHF means the rate will be cheaper if I pay in my currency?? And vice versa??
ArnoModerator15471 posts10 March 2016 at 14:33:05 #849175Hi kenlee6,
Well, prices can vary by the season, availability of rooms (and thus by booking date), and indeed by exchange rate as well. I don’t know how frequently these sites update their room rates based on exchange rates. Probably pretty frequently, but you’d have to check yourself.

I checked one of the hotels in hotels.com. Under the title “required at check in” it says credit card or cash deposit and Government issued photo ID
What is this government issued photo ID??
ArnoModerator15471 posts16 March 2016 at 16:44:45 #849178Hi kenlee,
It’s on the list of recommended hotels I referred to in my 4th post. It’s at a very convenient location.
I guess the photo ID is your travel document: a passport or equivalent. All hotels should ask you to identify yourself, it’s not specific for that hotel.
