How to fit Lake Como into our Swiss trip?

We planned to travel from Thailand to Switzerland in May 2020 (flying in and out of Zurich) but had to cancel because of Covid. Our itinerary was Thun (2 nights), Zermatt(2), Wengen (4) and Lucerne (3).The hotels in Thun, Zermatt and Lucerne were fully paid in advance and they have extended our booking.

We are now trying to plan another trip for when restrictions are lifted (unlikely October 2021 but hopefully May 2022). This time we would like to add a night in Milan and a couple of nights in Varenna. I have looked at flying into Zurich and out of Milan. And have looked at different train routes eg Zermatt to Milan or Spiez to Milan.

Can someone give some advice as what the easiest/best route might be? I appreciate it may be a bit tiring staying a few nights here and there. Also,we still want to stay in Wengen. Many thanks for any help.

    Hi Sweyne,

I’m sorry you had to postpone your trip to Switzerland. But glad to know you are still making plans and that the hotels have extended your bookings.

Based on your plans, flying into Zurich and out of Milan is probably best. Or you could also do it the other way around. Fly into Milan, a couple of nights in Varenna (there’s a direct train from Milan to Varenna), then train it to Zermatt and onwards to Thun, Wengen, Lucerne and finally Zurich to catch your flight out.

You can use the Swiss Railway timetable to find train connections and plan your journeys : http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Perhaps other forum members could provide some personal insights of their own.

And if you’re still looking for places to stay in Wengen, this link might be useful: http://www.myswissalps.com/wengen/hotels

    Regards,

    Anna
