We plan on buying a Swiss Travel Pass, but will need it for 9 days total. We see that the pass is only for 3, 5 8 or 15 days. Do they sell extra 1 day passes to add on to the 8 day pass or do we need to buy an assortment of days or combinations (which would mean that we might not use some of the days)? Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi BandA,

There is a one-day travel pass but only for holders of the Swiss Half Fare Card – which wouldn’t be worth the cost to you most likely.

If you are traveling frequently or on longer trips on days 9 and 10 of your trip it can be worth it to buy a 15 day Swiss Travel Pass as well.

Either that or use the 8 day pass on the first 8 days or last 8 days of your trip (whichever has the most expensive travel) and then buy point to point tickets on the remaining days.

In some circumstances an 8 day Swiss Travel Pass Flex could work as well so you can pick the 8 most expensive travel days on your trip (doesn’t need to be consecutive) but there is a price premium on this rail pass.

To help you decide on the best rail pass economically be sure to visit our how to choose the best rail pass web page and use our Excel sheet to help you do the math.

    Hello BandA

No, you can’t buy individual days economically. Are you sure you are going to use the STP on every one of your 9 days? Is it possible that an 8-day pass with point to point tickets on either your first or last day in Switzerland might work for you? Or if you have a day or two in the middle or your trip where you will do little travel then an 8-day STP Flex may work for you (can be used any 8 days in a month but comes at a premium over the fixed time STP).

(You just beat me to it Lucas)
