we are planning a trip for our 25th Wedding Anniversary to Switzerland. Can you help us to plan where will be the best place to base ourselveswe will fly into Zurich from London at 3pm and be on the return flight on Sunday afternoon so our time is very limited! We really want to experience The Bernina Express – do you think this is achievable in one day or should we only do part of the route and if so which part would you recommend?

many thanks for your much appreciated help. Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Sorry, I don’t see what day you arrive. Is it on Friday? You can do the Bernina Express in one long day from Zurich but it means 10 to 12 hours on a train and I’m not sure you want to do that.

I would stay over night in Tirano or Lugano before heading back to Zurich.

You can search for train timetables here. The route is Chur to Tirano and the BEX train is the one you want for the panoramic train.

Thank you Lucas for both the information and rep,y !

we shall be arriving on a Friday – do you think the Bernina Express train is achievable for us or would you recommend the Glacier Express as a better option ?

    with many thanks,

The Glacier Express may be abetter option yes. Have a look at this self-guided tour option.
