Hello, on a whim, yes i know bad idea, my friends and I bought round-trip tickets for a week in Switzerland. Our dates are October 28-November4th. We have hopes of doing some backpacking and we were wondering what is the best with the current weather conditions… I have been doing a lot of research but I was wondering if anyone could help me on this website!

    Thank you for your time,

    Sierra

    Hi Sierra –

    Welcome to my Swiss Alps:

    Take a look here:

    This may be useful:

In late October, the high Alps are chancy. Some trails may be open, others, snowed in.

Tourist facilities up there are closing for break before the winter season. Some are open.

You can get some access by expensive excursion trains, for example to the Jungfraujoch, but the more useful cableways stop on about October 23rd.

What are your exact travel dates?

Lots of good fall hiking at lower elevations, however.

Altitude is everything. Controls the weather.

Apart from walking around with a pack on your back, do you have specific interests?

    Hi Sirra –

    Ooops-

Missed your dates on my first reading.

    All comments still hold.

At lower altitudes, you’ll be able to hike. In the high Alps. not so much.
