Hello, what a great forum and site you have going 🙂

We are a family of 4 (2adults 2kids) visiting for the first time in August this year. We are driving there in a camper and will be based at Manor Farm on Lake Thun.

I am getting very confused about which train ticket will suit our needs. We would like to explore by train/bus/boat and use gondolas mainly in the close bernese oberland area. If our budget will stretch we’d also like to get up to Jungfraujoch also, but would settle for Titlis maybe for the kids.

Which combination of passes / family pass / child card etc. would make economic sense.

    Many many thanks 🙂 Helen

    Hello Helen,

How long will you be staying at Manor Farm and explore the Bernese Oberland? Do you already know which daytrips you want to make? Knowing this may be important for the answers to your questions.

In the meantime you might check whether the Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland (two for the price of one at this moment) seems a good choice for you. We have used this Pass many times and we love what you can do with it.
Besides, you are going to visit a very beautiful part of Switzerland!

Please come back if there are more questions.

Enjoy your preparations and your stay!

Hello Helen, our friends have stayed at Manor Farm for several holidays but have car and caravan which means they can use the car to get to Interlaken to catch trains etc – I mention this because the last bus (21) from Interlaken Ost leaves at 19.08 (West 19.17) and it is quite a long walk if you miss it! So unless you plan to park the camper in Interlaken (not easy I imagine and possibly expensive unless you can find a spot that is free! The staff at Manor Farm may be able to advise you). you need to plan your trips accordingly.
We have stayed in the Bernese Oberland many times now and we buy a Swiss Saver Pass (15 % discount for 2 people travelling together – and you should get a Family card for the children to travel free whatever Pass you decide on) – we get this pass because we travel extensively outside the B. Ob. region as well. If you intend to stay within B. Ob the regional pass would indeed be a good choice (not for Titlis which is outside the area) – the special offer does not apply in August however. It is only by checking out the regular prices of the trips you want to make and applying the discounts each type of pass would give you can you be really sure which is best but it is worth the effort to get the best deal as you can save a lot of money with a pass.
You can enjoy making plans with the links suggested in this forum – have a wonderful time. Maggie

Thank you Maggie, some great advice. We’re swaying more towards the regional one, are we right in thinking we’ll get on more gondolas and lifts with this one rather than the swiss pass say?

Ooh and thank you Wandermann too 🙂 we are not set with our choices of trips yet, but see your point about how this decision affects the choice of pass…… more thinking to do 🙂
