Hi Travel2Live,
The Jura mountain region is certainly not underrated but perhaps overlooked as most tourists prefer travelling in the more well-known and well promoted regions in the Swiss Alps. Basel is a good starting point to explore charming and medieval Jura towns of St Ursanne, Porrentruy and Delemont. Neuchatel could also be a good base. There are regular train services between all these destinations and you can use the SBB timetable to check train schedules: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable
If you’re planning a trip to the Jura mountains, you can find some useful travel tips here: http://www.j3l.ch/en/

There is no question that the Jura mountains are totally overlooked by most long haul visitors to Switzerland who get taken in by the hype surrounding the famous high alpine peaks such as Matterhorn and Jungfrau. I learnt to ski 60 years ago in the Jura mountains long before I went to the Alps.

One of the best views of the Alps is obtainable from the Jura mountains, for example at the logically named ‘Vue des Alpes’ near La Chaux de Fonds.
