Hi, we have a 7 day holiday scheduled in Grindelwald from the 23rd March 2013 and are looking for a railway pass to travel around the Jungfrau area. The Jungfrau Unlimited Railway Pass is ideal but it is not available until the 30th April. In winter, will a ski pass for the Jungfrau area provide unlimited free railway travel? Does the ski pass also give 50% discount to the Jungfraujoch? We are not skiers but this seems to be the best option. Thanks.

Welcome Tezzer! The Jungfau Railways Pass isn’t available in March indeed. There are lots of ski pass variants; you can best take a look at the Jungfrau Railways website for an overview. Maybe the Hiking&Sledging Pass is a good option for you.

You could look into the Swiss Half Fare Card and the Swiss Card as well. They don’t grant free traveling, but they allow discounts throughout the country and often prove to be a cost effective solution for short stays with regional train trips. An advantage is that these passes would also allow you to make discounted trips outside of the Jungfrau region, if weather in the area is bad. Whether a Swiss Half Fare Card or a Swiss Card is better, depends on your inbound and outbound journey. For example: if you’re to travel from Zurich Airport to Grindelwald and back, the Swiss Card would be cheaper.
