We plan to visit during “Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe” during the 3rd week of August. We will take the route shown below:

1- From Interlaken Ost to Grindelwald:

2- From Grindelwald; change to the Wengernalp Railway for Kleine Scheidegg.

3- In Kleine Scheidegg; change to the Jungfrau Railway, which takes you to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe in about an hour.

I have 3 question about the weather, appropriate clothes and route & time required, and appreciate your help and advice:

1- We are trying to travel light, so we are not planning to carry with us heavy Winter-type clothes. Will it be too cold their? Do you think we will need heavy Jackets. If so, Are there shops in the stop-stations to rent Jacks, as we have seen in some countries?

2- Shall we expect to see some snow remaining in August on the top (at which level?)

3- How long time does it take for the whole (2-way) Journey?

Thank you so much for your
    help.

    Hi Ahmed502,

    1. It will be cold, but August is relatively warm so it may be even above the freezing point during the day. Whether there’s sun and/or wind will make a big difference, but you won’t know until the day you plan to go up. If you dress in thin layers, as explained on the Jungfraujoch page, you’ll be fine. Just wear solid shoes, sun glasses and perhaps a hat, and you’ll be fine for a short stay outdoors. There is a Snow Fun Park that rents equipment, but I don’t know if they rent jackets.

    2. Yes, there will be snow at the Jungfraujoch.

    3. It’s either a day trip or half a day trip, see the page I referred to.

    Enjoy this wonderful trip!
