I am hoping to get some information on hiking from Lauterbrunnen to Lenk at the end of July. I will be traveling with my 16 y.o daughter. We both have a moderate amount of hiking experience. We plan to hike around 5 hrs per day and stay in the mountain huts. I have several questions.

    1. how many days of hiking would this be?

2.are reservations mandatory for the huts ?

    3. do the huts provide to go lunches for purchase?

    any other information is welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi mjsummit,

    1. I would estimate 5 days, but it really depends on your experience.

    2. It’s either required or highly recommended. Please see http://www.sac-cas.ch/en/huts.html for details regarding each hut.

    3. I think they do, but please check with them.

The map at map.wanderland.ch shows route details and many, but not all, huts (there’s no icon for the Rotstochhütte for example).

Be sure to check the weather forecast on a daily basis!

Thanks so much for replying !

I have a couple more questions if you don’t mind.

    1. Is payment for the huts only in cash or is credit card possible ?

    2. Is it worthwhile to become a SAC member for the hut discounts ? (We will be spending approximately 6-7 nights in mountain huts .)

    thanks for your help.

    Hi mjsummit,

    1. I would count on cash only.

    2. Yes, I think so, as you will get a 50% discount. But you’ll have to do the math to be sure. A family membership costs around CHF 110.
