    Hi,

Thanks a lot for maintaining such informative website on Swiss travel, it’s a boon for people like us.

We, family of 4 including 2 kids are planning for a visit to your lovely country in Oct’16. Have a few queries and was wondering if you could help me wit that –

    1. How is the typical weather during first week of October especially from rain, visibility perspective.

    2. Due to lack of time, we won’t be able to take full route of iconic Glacier Express but wanted to use a part of it to go to Interlaken from Lucerne as per following –

    Lucerne to Chur via Thalwin

2.1 Will it be regular train?

2.2 How long will be this journey?

2.3 Will Swiss Travel Pass be applicable for this part?

    Chur to Brig

2.4 Want to use Glacier Express for this section, is it possible?

2.5 How long will be this journey?

2.6 Will Swiss Travel Pass be applicable for this part?

2.7 Is there any specific timing for Glacier Express from this station? Frequency?

    Chur to Spiez

2.8 Will it be regular train?

2.9 How long will be this journey?

2.10 Will Swiss Travel Pass be applicable for this part?

    Spiez to Interlaken

2.11 Will it be regular train? Can we take a boat ride instead of Train?

2.12 How long will be this journey?

2.13 Will Swiss Travel Pass be applicable for this part?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Yashfamily –

    Thanks for the compliments.

Nice to see you here on My Swiss Alps.

Your proposed itnerary/rouitng is somewhat puzzling. Chur appears perhaps too often.

Many of your questions can be answered by studying a map and a time table, plus the information about the Glacier Express.

Take a look at these links:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

    http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress

    and, the map:

    map.search.ch/

If that is insuffciient, please post again.

Arno and Annika answer questions about passes. In general, all

travel in Switzerland is covered, but reservations are not. Mountain

    railways – Jungfraujoch – give a discount.

    Slowpoke.

    Thanks Slowpoke for your reply.

My bad, it should read Brig to Spiez and NOT Chur to Spiez

    The whole route would be

    Lucerne —- Chur —– Brig ——- Interlaken

will this be possible? Or I will it be too tiring and ambitious?

with the above route in mind please suggest whether Glacier Express can be covered or not and also some of my original queries

Hi YashFamily -Don’t have time a this moment to deal with your questions… Hopefully, later, or perhaps Annika or Arno will jump in.

However, your questions about travel timing can best be answered by studying the time table. It can show you timing options that are not possible to describe easily in words here.

    Hi YashFamily,

You can download the map to see what’s included in the Swiss Travel Pass: myswissalps.com/ swisstravelpass/ validity. The basics are pretty simple: all trains, buses and boats are free, and nearly all mountain transport (cogwheel trains, cable cars) are discounted by 50%.
