Last question I promise! After some discussion, my son and I have decided to go on the Bernina express to Zurich (via Chur) on this trip after all. We are leaving for Europe next Sunday, so I’ll have to get busy booking our seats. We have 2nd class rail passes, so all it will cost us will be time, not money and will be a lovely way to spend our last day in Switzerland.. How do I go about booking this trip, and where in Lugano would we catch the bus to Turino? Thanks again for all your help with planning our time in Switzerland.

    Hi aussie,

Good decision, I’m sure you’ll like the trip! The bus departs 10:00 AM from the rail station in Lugano. It arrives 1 PM in Tirano (not Turino!), from where the train to Chur departs 2:26 PM. The bus and train require separate seat reservations, and you can find both of them through http://www.raileurope.com.au# tab3. Be sure to select 2nd class and Swiss Travel Pass, and don’t worry if the 10:00 AM bus connection looks like a train. If you click the Fare Details you’ll see it’s the bus. You do need to arrange for this today as shipping takes a few days, even from the Australian retailer.

Thanks Annika. I now have my tickets for the Bernina Express. Now all we need is good weather! Fingers crossed.
