inspired by bobsleigh to post, as our trip is similar but different.
    proposed itinerary:
arrive Geneva airport around noon june 7, look around Geneve and train to Vevey late afternoon -stay nights 7,8
train to Lauterbrunnen early June 9 – stay 9,10,11
during stay, visit Shilthorn ,Jungfraujosh [ouch to wallet], and Bern + anything else we can fit?
train to Lucern then Basel start early june 12, arrive evening
Look around Basel 13 June, depart 7pm

Any comments/suggestions on this very much appreciated.

I understand there is a free Riviera Pass with our accomodation in Vevey which give half price travel and castles etc in the area,
so thinking a 4 day pass for june 9,10,11,12 would be cost effective for us.
[find it tedious to lookup individual fares to compare – is there a publication online to do this ??]

    much appreciate any advice.

Hello crozza! If you want to make short trips only when staying in Vevey, the free Montreux Riviera Card may suffice indeed. The second part of your stay could be covered by either a 4 day Swiss Saver Pass or a Swiss Half Fare Card. According to my calculations, there isn’t much difference in the total price, the Swiss Half Fare Card solution being slightly cheaper than the total price with a 4 day Swiss Saver Pass.

A Swiss Pass offers ease of use: you don’t have to purchase regular tickets for your train journeys. Discounted additional tickets are only required for mountain transportation, such as the Schilthorn cable car and the Jungfraujoch. The Swiss Half Fare Card offers a 50% discount on nearly all trips, and does require you to purchase discounted ticket for each trip.

Prices of all Swiss rail passes can be found in our price overview.

As for your stay in Lauterbrunnen: please take a look at our Bernese Oberland day trips overview. Many day trips which can be made from Lauterbrunnen are listed here. You may want to include a boat ride on either lake Thun or lake Brienz in your stay. A boat trip on lake Thun may be combined with a visit to Bern; lake Brienz can be combined with the trip to Luzern.
