HI there! I’m traveling to Switzerland for the first time in a month. Based on our schedule, do you think we should get a Swiss Rail Pass, or just buy individual tickets?

    Here’s our plan:

On day 1 we will be taking the train from Geneva to Montreux. On Day 2 we will be taking the Golden Pass to Interlaken, and then regional trains to Lauterbrunnen, ending in Wengen. On Day 3, we’ll just be going between Wengen and Lauterbrunnen. On Day 4, we’ll take the regional trains from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen then to Interlakem, then continue the Golden Pass to Lucerne, where we’ll stay for two nights. On Day 6, we’ll take the train down to Lugano then over to Lake Como.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Southerngirl,

To me it seems like you will be traveling enough to warrant buying a Swiss Travel Pass, in your case you would need to buy an 8 day pass. It certainly is the easiest option as the pass covers virtually all rail routes in Switzerland (some routes are only discounted) but most of the time you just hop on any train you want at any time – easy!

To be really sure though you would need to do the math. Our page here on How to Choose the best Rail pass will help you do that.
