I understand there is a cable car to reach sidelhorn from hotel Grimsel hospiz. Is it operational?. We are planning to be there during late September. Will it be operating in the month of September?. Website mentions that it is self operated. What does ” self operated ” cable car mean and is it safe ?.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Bachhu, welcome to MySwissAlps!

The cable car operates as long as the pass road is open, which should be the case late September. You can get tickets from the hotel. The cable car is indeed self operated. That means there will be no staff but you can indicate you want to ride the cable car by pressing a button or making a call with the cable car phone. It is safe and it won’t operate in bad weather. You can also reach the Sidelhorn on foot from the parking lot at the Grimsel pass.
