    Hello,

My husband and I purchased a 4 day Swiss Flexi-Saver Pass under the two for one deal and will be arriving in Zurich on April 2, 2012, late in the afternoon. We have a couple of questions and would like to obtain some clarification of information we have found.

First, since we are arriving late in the day, do we have to use the first free day the day we validate the tickets? Can we validate and then just purchase a half fare ticket rather than use the first free day? If not, are there any deals that you know of that will get us from Zurich to Oberdiessbach.

Also, if we use the fourth free day before April 16, which is when we are leaving, we can no longer use the pass for half-fare travel? Again, if this is the case, are there any deals we might find to return to Zurich from Oberdiessbach?

Lastly, we keep reading that if we use a free bonus that comes with the passes it will use a free travel day. Is this true if we are already using a free travel day? Or if we are already on a free travel day will it use another free day?

We are leaving on Sunday, April 1, so a quick response will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Tina

Hello Tina, and welcome! You don’t have to use your first free travel day on the date you validate your pass. You can have it validated, but ask for a later first free travel day. However, you won’t be able to use the 50% discount before your first free travel day. That’s because the pass only becomes valid along with this first free travel day. So you should either pay the full price for Zurich-Oberdiessbach (which is CHF 54) or use your first free travel day for this trip. Accordingly, there’s no discount available after your last free travel day, so again the full regular fare would apply to your return trip if you’ve used your 4 free travel days by then.

Bonuses such as the free entrance to musea can indeed only be used on free travel days. That won’t cost you even another free travel day.

These and other details can be found at the Swiss Flexi Pass page.

Have a great stay in Switzerland!

Is there a direct train route from Interlaken to Montreux?

Hi Suzanne! May I recommend you to start a new topic for future questions you may have? Your question on the route between Interlaken and Montreux isn’t related to Tina’s original question, and forum visitors will have a better overview if one topic doesn’t cover several unrelated issues. Thank you :-)!

As for now: the most direct route is the one indicated by the timetable if you enter Interlaken as your departure station and Montreux as your destination. It’s via Bern and Lausanne and requires a change of trains at these two railway stations.
