We will be travelling with a Eurail pass in early Sept 2015 and we want to travel the Golden Pass line from Lucerne to Montreaux. Is this a straight through train trip on the same train or how many changes does it have as we have luggage. Can it be split up over 2 or 3 days with stopovers in villages along the way? We plan then to go from Montreaux to Lugano to catch the Bernina Express to Chur. Which route would be the best to Lugano from Montreaux? Does the Eurail pass cover these trains?

    Hi alerico03,

You’ll have to change in Interlaken Ost and Zweisimmen. Sure you can split the trip across multiple days. You don’t need reservations, you can take trains as you like. Schedules can be found in the timetable (also for trains to Lugano).

Depending on where you came from before Switzerland it may make sense to do the Golden Pass line the other way round. If you end up in Lucerne, the trip to Lugano takes half the amount of time. If time is not an issue, the Wilhelm Tell Express is a good way to get there.
