    Hi

We are a family of three, two adults and a 5yr old. We are arriving in Zurich airport at 9pm on 16/02/15, We aim to take a train from the airport to main station close to our hotel where we stay that night. Next morning we hope to take the train to Zermatt from Zurich main station where we stay for four days before returning to Zurich on 21/02/15.

I have worked out that the cheapest option for us is to buy online a Swiss Transfer Ticket combi with half fare card which will cover us for the return train journey to Zermatt and a possible 50% off any other trains, cable cars etc that we may use while in zermatt & Zurich.

My one question is that when we arrive, Do we have to complete the journey to our final destination (Zermatt) from the airport within the same day of arrival or do we have 24 hours to complete it from the time of activation of the card?, which i presume would be when we take the train from airport to main station.

Also Is the card valid for Trams in Zurich?

    Many thanks

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

The transfer needs to be completed the same day. In your case you would use the Swiss Transfer Ticket from Zurich HB (the main station) to Zermatt. You need to buy a ticket for the ride from the airport to the main station. There are airport hotels which offer free shuttle bus rides from the airport to the hotel, so in that case you would not need these additional tickets (they’re only a few francs). Urban transport like trams is not included in the Swiss Transfer Ticket. Please see here for the details.

You need two Swiss Transfer Tickets; the child travels for free. You can obtain the tickets through http://www.swisstravelsystem. co.uk and print them at home.

Have a great time in Zermatt!
