    Hi everyone,

Need suggestion on the best and cost effective way of travelling around Italy, Switzerland and France (this is in sequence). I am sharing the below travel details. I request you to kindly help me to decide on Swiss Travel Pass or Eurail Pass (for 3 countries). My tour starts on 29th Sept (ROME) and ends at 15th October (PARIS).

Day 1 (29.9.2017) – Rome. Roma Pass for 72 hours will cover me for the local public transport I guess.

    Day 2 (30.9.2017) – Rome

    Day 3 (1.10.2017) Rome

Day 4 (2.10.2017) Rome to Pisa via train. Overnight stay at Florence

    Day 5 (3.10.2017) Florence

Day 6 (4.10.2017) Florence to Venice via train

Day 7 (5.10.2017) Venice. (Staying near Venezia Mestre station and will require transportation to Venice everyday.

Day 8(6.10.2017) Venice to Lucerne. (Day tour in Lucerne)Staying in Sachseln. This will require everyday travel to Lucerne.

Day 9(7.10.2017) Sachseln. Mt Pilatus or Mt Rigi

    Day 10 (8.10.2017) Mt Titlis

Day 11. (9.10.2017) Lucerne to Interlaken. (Planning to take Golden Pass line).

    Day 12 (10.10.2017) Interlaken – Mt Jungfrau

    Day 13 (11.10.2017) Interlaken

Day 14 (12.10.2017) Interlaken to Paris

    Day 15 (13.10.2017) Paris

    Day 16 (14.10.2017) Paris

Day 17 (15.10.20117) Departure from Paris

What would be the best pass for me to select?

    Regards

Hi DJIndia and welcome to MySwissAlps!

The Eurail Select pass doesn’t cover city transit so it looks like you have a lot more trips in Switzerland by train and public transit than you do in the other countries. I would lean towards the Swiss Travel Pass in this case as it covers more routes (and provides better discounts and museum entries).

You can use our excel sheet on our How to choose the best rail pass here to help you do the math on the point to point tickets VS. a rail pass like the Swiss Travel Pass.

Click the links above on the passes to see what areas they cover to better help you make a final decision and let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks a lot Lucas for your response. Let me work on the excel and get back to you if I have any questions. However, I just wanted to know if I need to buy point to point tickets what would be the correct link for buying tickets within Italy and travelling from Switzerland to Paris. This is considering Swiss Travel Pass will take care of transportation within Switzerland.

    Thanks once again!

    No problem!

The link to buy point to point tickets from different countries to/from Switzerland is here.
