Train query

    Hi everyone,

I am travelling from Basel to Lauterbrunnen by train on the 10th of September with my wife and baby son. We are hoping to explore the surrounding area especially within the Bernese Oberland region. We will probably stay until the 17th of September, travelling again by train back to Basel airport. I am confused what train tickets we will need, looking for the cheapest tickets available. Any advice is most welcome.

    Hi Wolfywall,

Your plans sound like there are two options to choose from:

    • An 8-day Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland. This offers free traveling almost anywhere in the region. You would need a regular ticket from Basel airport to Bern, from where the pass can be used.
    • The Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi. It includes a free round trip from Basel airport to Lauterbrunnen, and a 50% discount on tickets for nearly all other trips you will make during your stay.

You need these passes for the adults only. Your son will travel along for free in both cases.
