Hello! We will be visiting Switzerland the end of Sept/beginning of Oct as the mid-point of a Euro trip and are planning to do the Glacier Express. I’m interested in opinions on which direction of travel is best, or does it matter? We will be staying the first part of our trip in Venice and the last part in Paris. Also, I’m having problems figuring out the best way to get to St. Moritz (or Zermatt) from Venice. We are planning to spend a night in St. Moritz and can do another along the way from Venice to St Moritz if that’s the best way, then a few 2-3 more nights in Zermatt. Ideally I think we’d like to go from Venice > St Moritz > Zermatt > Paris, but can reverse it to Zermatt > St Moritz if that is advised! Thanks in advance, all opinions are appreciated!

    Welcome to MySwissAlps NanHag!

The direction of travel doesn’t matter. A wonderful route would be Venice – Lugano (stay one night) – bus to Tirano – Bernina Express to St. Moritz (stay one night). Alternatively you could do Venice – Milan – Tirano – St. Moritz all by train in one day. Please see these pages:
