We are looking to go from Engelberg to Gruyeres, and the trip
has us going through Bern. We are thinking of returning via Brig, although this
would be a long day. It looks like it would be a very scenic route, do you
think it would be worth the extra time? We are traveling the first week of
August, so daylight would be an issue I assume.

    Thank you.

    Hi mikefrank,

The route is scenic if you make sure you take the local train from Brig via Goppenstein and Kandersteg to Bern. All the faster trains will go through a long tunnel. But this trip will take 8 hours or so in total so it can’t be combined with a trip from Engelberg to Gruyères in the morning plus sightseeing. See the timetable for details.
