    Hi all,

We are planning a 7 days trip to switzerland from November 25. We will be arriving in Zurich on 25th and planning to move to Luzern or Interlaken. We wish to cover areas around Interlaken, St. Mortin, Rhine falls, and travel through Bernna express, golden pass line. We were also interested to experience Glacier express but found out it doesn’t operate during this period.

Can you suggest some other places that are a must visit in the country and also how can we plan our itinerary so that we get to enjoy the scenic beauty despite of the cloudy weather or rains during that period??

Hello yashvananda, and welcome to the forum! Lucerne and Interlaken are both great resorts for exploring some of Switzerlands most beautiful regions, to that’s a good choice. Lucerne-Meiringen-Interlaken is part of the Golden Pass line, so you can easily travel this route.

If you want to visit St. Mortin in the western part of the country too, the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express don’t fit in your itinerary that well. If the Bernina Express is very important to you, you could choose to travel to St. Moritz in the south-east and then make the Bernina Express trip to Tirano, but that would be a long detour, requiring you to spend one or two nights in or near St. Moritz. The timetable will help you decide, as it indicates connections and traveling times.

If you want to be flexible and adapt your plans to the weather, a Swiss rail pass would be very convenient (and in definitely more economical than buying regular point to point tickets). The 8 day Swiss Saver Pass may be a good option for you, as it allows you to travel anywhere throughout the country on all days of your stay. It’ll make it easier to travel to a region where weather is fine, and train rides are very enjoyable, even if it’s rainy. Furthermore, you could look into boat trips over the lakes near Lucerne and Interlaken, museums (such as the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne), and so on.

    Does this get you started?

thanks Annika. We are deciding on 2 days stay in Lucern, 3 days in Interlaken and covering the nearby areas and moving on to st. mortiz and take Bernin express from there to Tirano.

I am just doubtful about the weather in these cities at this time, thats november end. If its rainy and too much of snow fall, i doubt if we would get to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place.

How is the weather generally in November end in these cities? This will help us out further on planning a brief itinerary.

Hello yashvananda. You’ll probably find winter circumstances by the end of November, especially in towns that are situated pretty high up in the mountains such as St. Moritz. Still, the weather can range from cold, clear and sunny to clouded with rain or snow: that’s very hard to predict. It can even be foggy down in the towns, but very clear at mountain peaks. This topic provides further information on weather in November. The best you can do is plan a flexible schedule with back-up plans for bad weather and use a rail pass that allows you to travel anywhere you like.
