We will be in Switzerland at the end of October/early November of this year. We have been told the Glacier Express stops end of October. Is this correct? If so is it possible to get from Como to Chur on the Bernina Express and which would be the best way to tackle this journey.

    Hi aleric003,

Thanks for joining us! Yes, the information you got is correct (please see the Glacier Express page for this and many more details about the train). This year the last day is October 25. It will be available again by mid December. You can still do the same route by regular trains though. In that case, the journey takes a bit longer and requires a few changes.

Como to Chur would include just a part of the Glacier Express: Andermatt to Chur. You can simply do that by using the regular trains. See the timetable for details. Will you have a rail pass? If so, the ride is probably free.

An alternative is to take a train from Como to Lugano, then the Bernina Express bus to Tirano, finally the Bernina Express train to Chur. But, the bus is also only available until October 25. There are trains to Tirano but they take longer. Details are on the Bernina Express page.

So, you need your exact travel date, then pick your preferred route and check the timetable for the options.

Thank you, Arno. We will check out passes etc. and now that we have this basic information we can work from that. Thanks again. I am sure we will send more questions in the future …. Cheers
