We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 teens ages 15,18) This summer, we will travel from Geneva Airport to Wengen, stay there for 3 days, and then back to Geneva Airport.

While in Wengen, we plan to visit Jungfrau, Grindelwald, First, Schilthorn, Schynige Platte, and Trummelbach Falls.

When we travel from Geneva Airport to Wengen, we will either take the most direct route, or (if the cost difference is not too much) take the slightly longer route on the Golden Pass panoramic train on the stretch between Montreux and Zweisimmen.

Which rail pass/passes should we consider?

Welcome janice! I think you should consider a 4 or 6 day Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland. It allows free traveling in a large area, including part of the trips Geneva Airport-Wengen and back. If you take the most direct route via Bern, you’ll have to buy a regular ticket Geneva-Bern and travel for free with your Regional-Pass up from Bern. If you take the Golden Pass train, you can use a 50% discounted ticket between Montreux and Gstaad and travel for free up from Gstaad. Please find details, including a validity map and purchase options, at the Regional-Pass page.

Another option is the Swiss Card. The pass itself is cheaper than a Regional-Pass, but allows less free traveling. The trips Geneva Airport-Wengen and back via the most directe route will be for free; all further trips are discounted by 50%. You won’t be allowed to take the scenic Golden Pass detour though.
