Need advice. We have to get from Lucerne to Lugano on August 25th. Were planning on taking the Wilhelm Thell Trip with first leg of it on the boat and then train, but the last one leaves at 11:12am. Do you think if we took a separate boat trip on the lake, then returned to Lucerne to take a regular intercity train to Lugano, will have similar experience? Does Wilhelm Thell train takes a different sightseeing route?

    Hi sealavie,

There’s no need to go back to Lucerne. You can take any boat and train and have the same experience: take a boat from Lucerne to Flüelen, and change to a train to Lugano there.

Thanks for that. You mean take a regular train from Fluelen to Lugano? The Lucerne- Lugano trains stop there?

Yes, the regular train from Flüelen. It takes the same route so you won’t miss any scenery. There’s one train per hour to Bellinzona. That’s where you change for Lugano. All schedules can be found in the timetable.
