Hi All

We will be travelling to Switzerland from 9th till 14th. We are a couple of two. As per our present planned itinerary, we will be in Zermatt on 12th May Night and most of the 13th May. We wish to do the Gorner grad Express or the cable car ride to Klein Matterhorn depending on the weather condition. Will it be a good time to be in Zermatt? Or we should think of going towards Lake Geneva instead?

Hi bmalini and welcome to MySwissAlps!

May can be a nice time to visit Zermatt, it can get quite cold on Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn (year-round skiing) so be prepared for that!

Some other lifts and gondolas may not be running (annual servicing before the summer season) so it is something to be aware of

Hiking options might be limited in May, but for just one day you will certainly be able to have a very nice time in Zermatt. You need good weather though, and thus a bit of luck.

Transport all the way to Klein Matterhorn is not operating between 2 May and 12 May, but you could do this trip on 13 May if the weather is suitable.

You can go to the Gornergrat on 12 May if you get to Zermatt early enough. The last trip up is at 18:24, arriving 18:57. The last trip down is at 19:18. Sunset is at 20:50. Make sure to double-check these times yourself when you are there!

Thanks everyone for the suggestion. Let’s see if we can do both train and the cable car. We need a lot of luck though!!
