Filisur

Albulatal

Filisur is situated in the center of Graubünden and is a good starting point for those who like to meet the canton by train. Filisur is a junction of railways from Thusis/Chur, Davos and St.Moritz. Train enthusiasts may be interested in hotel Grischuna (refer to the links about Graubünden) that is situated right next to the train station and has rooms which offer you a direct view at the railway. Furthermore, the famous Landwasser viaduct is close to the village. If you do not wish to spend the night in hotel Grischuna, you need to take into account that the train station is situated higher than the village itself, so a small climb is necessary to reach the station.

Bever

Oberengadin

The small village of Bever is particularly suitable for those who like to stay in a quiet, but well reachable village. Bever is situated at the main road which connects the Oberengadin with the Unterengadin and it is a junction of railways from Samedan/St.Moritz/Pontresina, Zuoz (Unterengadin) and Filisur/Chur. Please pay attention to the fact that the number of trains to Filisur and Chur is limited; most trains in this direction do not stop in Bever, and therefore you have to travel back to nearby Samedan by a local train and change trains there. From Bever you can hike directly into the Valley of Bever. This valley is nearly uninhabited and offers you untouched natural scenery, very suitable for shorter and longer hikes.

Chur

Rheintal

Chur is the capital and the largest city of Graubünden, and can be reached by freeway and good train connections. This makes Chur an excellent place to spend your vacation, if you also like to see other parts of Switzerland besides Graubünden. The center of Chur consists of two parts. The newer part is near the train station, where you will also come across the larger department stores. The historical part of the city, with its nice little squares, narrow streets and smaller shops is situated a bit further downtown. Chur is one of the few places in Graubünden where a firm number of shops can be found. Furthermore you will find quite a number of restaurants and pubs here. A nice object of interest is the train to Arosa, which uses the streets like a tram.
