Introduction

The route between First (pronounce as ‘Fierst’) and the Grosse Scheidegg is a bit similar to the hike Kleine Scheidegg – Männlichen. Since this hike is less popular, the trail is usually not that crowded. The route leads through gently rolling meadows to the pass between Grindelwald and Meiringen: the Grosse Scheidegg. This route also offers an almost continuous view of the Jungfrau massif, while overlooking the Grindelwald valley on the right.

Transportation to First

You will first travel to Grindelwald by car or by train. A 15 minute walk is required to get from the train station to the gondola that takes you up to First. There is also a bus service from Meiringen via Grosse Scheidegg to Grindelwald. Usually, you are required to pay a surcharge for these buses. Will you be traveling to and from hiking areas frequently? A Swiss Pass or one of the other passes grants easy access to the entire Swiss Travel System (trains, buses, boats and mountain transportation).
