Introduction

This route starts off at the impressive Giessbach waterfall. You will follow a nearly flat path along the shore of Lake Brienz, walking towards the village of Iseltwald through a shady forest. Some nice rock masses can be seen along the path. This route is part of the longer route Brienz – Iseltwald.

Transportation to Giessbach

From Interlaken or Brienz you can travel to Giessbach by boat, across Lake Brienz. Giessbach can also be reached by car from Brienz/Meiringen through a narrow road. Will you be traveling to and from hiking areas frequently? A Swiss Pass or one of the other passes grants easy access to the entire Swiss Travel System (trains, buses, boats and mountain transportation).

Route description

If you have come by boat, your will start off at the shore of Lake Brienz. Follow the signs towards Iseltwald, but don’t forget to walk up to the waterfall first, if you don’t want to miss out on some spectacular views. You can also take a funicular up to the waterfall. If you have come by car, you will start above the waterfall and follow the signs to ‘Giessbach/See’. After having arrived at the lake’s shore, follow the signs towards Iseltwald.

Transportation from Iseltwald

From Iseltwald you can travel by bus to Interlaken, and travel further by train from the railway station of Interlaken Ost. You can also use boat connections to Interlaken Ost and back to Giessbach/Brienz.
