Introduction

The section from Burglauenen to Schwendi is nearly flat en runs through a forest, parallel to the river the Schwarze Lütschine. After Schwendi you will have to make a short climb, followed by a descent through quiet roads along grasslands and chalets. On your way to Grindelwald, you will have views of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, Eiger, the Oberer Grindelwald glacier and Schynige Platte. This route is part of the longer route Lütschental – Grindelwald Grund.

Transportation to Burglauenen

Burglauenen can be reached by train from Interlaken or Grindelwald. Will you be traveling to and from hiking areas frequently? A Swiss Pass or one of the other passes grants easy access to the entire Swiss Travel System (trains, buses, boats and mountain transportation).

Route description

Follow the signs to Grindelwald. At Schwendi, turn right in the direction of Grindelwald Grund. Just before Grindelwald, follow the signs ‘Männlichenbahn’ until you reach the railway station of Grindelwald Grund.

From Grindelwald Grund, you can travel to Grindelwald/Interlaken or Kleine Scheidegg by train.
