    Hello,

We are total 5 Adults ( 2 senior citizens) and 1 child coming to Switzerland on 10th Oct 2015 to 17th Oct 2015. We have our Hotel booking in the area Haute-Nendaz for all 6 nights. We wish to stay there for at least 3-4 days and would like to take accommodation elsewhere for remaining 2-3 days to cover other areas.

We were planning to first take a stay at Interlaken or Engelberg to cover jungfraujoch, Mt. Titlis, and then move to our booked location haute-Nendaz. From there we were planning to do Geneva, montreux and any nearby sighseeing.

Can anybody suggest how should we plan according to above dates/ booking and taking into consideration of Snr. Citizens and a child ??

    1) How to travel ? (Travel pass only??, we do not want to rent and drive a car )

    2) Which places we should visit / avoid ?? Where to stay? Engelberg/ interlaken / zermatt to visit our planned locations ??(We do not want to make this trip hectic)

    3) What we can do from Haute-nendaz??

Any step by step planned itinerary would be appreciated 🙂

<<“3) What we can do from Haute-nendaz??”>>

You can explore the Rhone Valley.

You can walk the bisse back into the valley from Haut Nendaz, and turn back on the other side, and come out at Veysonnaz, if you want a serious hike exploring historical Swiss archaelogy and agricultural history, with minimal altitude change.

Most of the popular tourist destinations are not close, However, Haut Nendaz is a nice small town. Sion and Brig offer some tourist attractions; at Sion , if you like to walk, you can climb up to the old castle.

You will be between seasons, and,f you are lucky, may have good weather. It is a bit late in the year to promise it, especially at elevations such as Haut-Nendaz, on the non-sunny side of the valley.. On the other hand, the Rhone Valley tends to be sunny and warm. Skiing likely will not begin for a few more months.

As for Titlis and Jungfraujoch: Engelberg or Interlaken would only be ideal for one of these. The trip to reach the other mountain would be very long. You can base yourself somewhere in the middle, like Meiringen in the Hasli valley. Traveling times can be found in the timetable.

As for the rail pass: you’d better first make a list of day trips, and then decide which pass fits your plans. It is explained here. A Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card will most probably be best.

Can anybody guide with specifics, must see places from Haut-Nendaz ?

Where we can go and come back on the same day ? According to travel time we can find time required to travel, but i would like to know how much time we would take / devote to each place. (i know it’s not that logical, but with any of yours personal perspective any ball park figure)

So.. Must see places from Haut-Nendaz. we can leave early in the morning and return late in the evening back to the resort. We would like to live for 3-4 days in haut-Nendaz, so i would really appreciate if anybody can suggest day trips for these 3-4 days.

    Hi rohitkp!

Slowpoke already suggested day trips within the Haute-Nendaz region. Some further ideas to look into (that require a bit more traveling time):

Zermatt is about 3 hours away and is an excellent tourist destination. Worth more than one day, so you can spend a full day there.

What do you mean by “see” as in “must see” ?

Do you want to look out train windows, see from hiking trails, ride to mountain tops via varous kinds of cable cars, walk around cities?

There is a very nice trail along the older rail route from Hohtenn to Brig. (The BLS Südrampe Trail.) Sections can be accessed at different rain stops. It is a fairly easy walk, but has some ups and downs where good shoes/boots with lugged soles are a good idea. Not sure it would match your family’s ages/ desires??

At that time of year, you are near or past the end of of the summer season. Many cable cars and some hotels will be closed for between season maintenance. So, if you want to go up on mountains, please check the timetables for specific dates:

If you leave for Haut Nendaz for Bern at 0840, you’ll be there in 2 hours and 16 minutes. Bern is a nice place for a half day visit. Walk through the really nice Old Town, up to the Rosegarden ( there will still be a few roses left in October) look out over the city.

Have lunch at the Rose garden, or at either of two places by the Nydegg Brücke – The old Trolley barn – fun

    – or he small very good Brasserie Baerengraben right by the bus stop.. Usually busy.

After lunch, you can walk or ride the tram back to the main station.

Not sure if the Bear pits are functioning. Maybe under repair at the moment? They are right by the Nydegg Brücke, too.
