    Hello everyone 🙂

We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children age 9,6 and 2).We are planning to go to Switzerland in July for 8 days and we will be driving down from Scotland with our own car.

We will be staying in Lucerne for one night (Radisson Blu), Grindelwald 3 nights (Hotel Bodmi) and Zermatt 3 nights (Chalet Hotel Schönegg). I was just wondering what do you think of these choices please? For those who have stayed at Radisson Blu Lucerne before do you think its worth getting the lake view room even if its just for one night stay? And for the hotel in Zermatt how far is the hotel from Zermatt train station?

    Thank you 🙂

    Hallo,

It is al long trip from Scotland to Switserland. Is in not better to stay in one area for the hollyday ? I think Grindelwald and Bernese Oberland? There is so mutch to see and to do.

It is a lot off travel by car in only 8 days………

The hotels are like good, the hotel in Zermatt is about 600 meters from the Zermatt main Station (line to Brig).

    Greeting from the Netherlands, Brahms

Thank you Brahm for your reply. It is going to be a long journey but we will break the trip for one night in Ashford (before Eurotunnel crossing) and one night in Colmar.

Having read the forum now I am not sure whether we should move our base to Wengen instead. Any reviews for Beausite Park hotel or Sunstar Alpine hotel in Wengen please? Or should we just stick with our base in Grindelwald?

Grindelwald is better by car, because Wengen is carfree.

You van only go to Wengen by mountain train from Wengen.

    >> We will be staying in … Zermatt 3 nights (Chalet Hotel Schönegg) … how far is the hotel from Zermatt train station?

    Hi shulien,

According to Google Maps, walking from Zermatt Bahnhof (railway station) to the Hotel Schönegg would take about 14 minutes (see first map attached). However, the hotel will pick you up on arrival and drop you off when you leave – on their website it says:

On your arrival in Zermatt we will collect you from the station or the taxi stand in our hotel taxi and drop you off when you leave. Just inform us about your arrival time in advance or call us at your arrival and our porter will collect you within 5 minutes.

    http://www.schonegg.ch/zermat t/hotel/arrival.html

There is also an electric bus service in Zermatt (fares payable). The closest stop to the Hotel Schönegg appears to be “Brücke zum Steg”, and according to Google Maps, it would take about 7 minutes to walk to the hotel from there (see second attached map).

Here is the website for the Hotel Bodmi in Grindelwald.

They don’t seem to have any information about parking for hotel guests. You might want to contact them to find out what your parking options are.

The attached map shows where the hotel is in relation to Grindelwald station. They provide a free shuttle for guests arriving at the railway station.

I haven’t stayed there myself, but comments about Radisson Blu rooms on Trip Advisor warn against taking rooms facing the railway station, the office building next door or the dorm of the university. Rooms overlooking the internal courtyard apparently don’t get full sun.

The preferred rooms seem to be on the higher floors (5th floor upwards) facing the mountains or the lake, but apparently there are a limited number of these.

It might be worth paying extra for a nice view, depending on the additional cost and how much time you intend to spend in your hotel room during daylight hours.

Here is the website for the hotel:

    Sorry, again (wrong tekst):

You can only go to Wengen by mountain train from “Lauterbrunnen”.
